The clock may be ticking on one of Disney’s most recognizable dining experiences.
Rainforest Cafe occupies a strange but beloved corner of the Disney parks empire — equal parts restaurant, animatronic jungle show, and late-1990s time capsule. Guests walk beneath artificial thunderstorms, listen to gorillas roar overhead, and order burgers beside glowing aquariums packed with tropical fish.

The chain became deeply tied to Disney’s expansion era during the 1990s and early 2000s. Locations opened at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort during the height of the themed dining boom, when restaurants increasingly doubled as attractions themselves.
Although many of those experiences have disappeared, several Disney-connected Rainforest Cafe locations survived long after the trend faded. Disney Springs and Disney’s Animal Kingdom continue operating locations in Florida, while Tokyo Disney Resort still hosts a branch at Ikspiari.
Another location has quietly become one of the last remaining symbols of that era.
Rainforest Cafe Reportedly Closing After More Than Two Decades
According to reports circulating online, the Rainforest Cafe at Disney Village is expected to permanently close in just 131 days.
🔴 As rumors surrounding the Rainforest Café at Disney Village intensify, it seems that its permanent closure is indeed scheduled for September 15, 2026.
The announcement was reportedly made recently to the restaurant's staff, but there has been no official confirmation yet.

Employees were allegedly informed of a September 15 closure, though Disney has not publicly confirmed the report.
The restaurant first opened in 1999 as part of the resort’s entertainment district expansion. At the time, Disney Village — then known as Festival Disney — leaned heavily into large-scale themed restaurants and nightlife concepts aimed at extending guest stays beyond the parks.
Rainforest Cafe quickly became one of the district’s defining landmarks. Its massive volcano facade, tropical exterior landscaping, and towering jungle entrance stood out among the resort’s retail and dining offerings.

Inside, guests encountered many of the chain’s signature effects. Simulated thunderstorms rolled through the dining room every few minutes, animatronic elephants and gorillas moved overhead, and dense artificial foliage covered nearly every wall and ceiling surface.
Like the Florida locations, the restaurant became especially popular with families seeking a break from traditional theme park dining. Its oversized menu, immersive atmosphere, and late operating hours helped make it a staple for guests staying on property.
The reported closure comes during a period of sweeping transformation for Disney Village. Over the past year, Disney has accelerated redevelopment efforts across the shopping and dining district as part of a broader modernization strategy tied to the resort’s long-term expansion plans.

Several longtime venues, such as the Disney Store, have already closed or been redesigned. New retail concepts, updated facades, and contemporary dining spaces have gradually replaced many of the older 1990s aesthetics that once defined the area.
Disney Village Continues Major Overhaul
The changes arrive as the resort prepares for its most ambitious expansion in years.
Walt Disney Studios Park was recently transformed into Disney Adventure World, a reimagined second gate featuring major new themed lands based on Frozen. This is set to be followed by a land inspired by The Lion King, and an Up ride. The park’s central lake, new promenade areas, and updated infrastructure are all part of Disney’s wider repositioning strategy for the resort.
Disney Village has become a major focus of that overhaul.

In recent months, new storefronts and restaurant concepts have begun replacing older venues across the district. Disney has also pushed for a more modern architectural style, moving away from the loud colors and exaggerated theming that characterized the area during the late 1990s.
That shift has fueled speculation around Rainforest Cafe’s future for months.
The restaurant’s heavily themed design increasingly stood apart from Disney Village’s newer aesthetic direction. Although the location remained operational, fans frequently questioned whether it still fit Disney’s evolving plans for the district.
Neither Disney nor Rainforest Cafe owner Landry’s has publicly announced a closure. Still, reports of an internal countdown have already sparked concern among Disney fans online, particularly among visitors nostalgic for the resort’s earlier era.
