Disney World didn’t pause in 2025 to make a single dramatic statement. Instead, it moved steadily forward. Updates rolled out during busy months. Closures happened in phases. New experiences opened without much fanfare. Before most fans realized what was happening, the parks already looked different.
That’s why 2025 stands out. Disney stopped framing the future as something far away and started building it in plain sight.
When Familiar Spaces Quietly Disappeared
Several closures defined the year, even if they didn’t all arrive with big announcements.
Hollywood Studios said goodbye to Muppets Courtyard on June 8, 2025. The space, known for MuppetVision 3D and themed dining, closed to make room for Monstropolis. Rather than a simple refresh, Disney cleared the area thoroughly, signaling a significant shift in direction.
Change continued when Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s preshow vanished in early December 2025. Disney kept the ride operating, but the missing preshow made one thing clear: preparations for the Muppets retheme were already underway.

More Disney Attractions Say Goodbye
Magic Kingdom followed suit on July 7, 2025, closing Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Bell Riverboat. The closures marked the end of a slower-paced experience as Disney prepared the area for Piston Peak, one of the park’s most ambitious expansions.
At Animal Kingdom, DinoLand U.S.A. began its phased closure in January 2025. While the process stretched into the following year, Disney confirmed that DINOSAUR and Restaurantosaurus will close on February 2, 2026, making way for Pueblo Esperanza themed to Encanto and Indiana Jones.
Hollywood Studios also cleared space by closing Animation Courtyard, Star Wars Launch Bay, and Disney Junior Play and Dance!. Disney has confirmed that the area will return as The Walt Disney Studios, anchored by the Magic of Disney Animation and the Drawn to Wonderland playground.

New Experiences That Didn’t Make Much Noise
Even as areas closed, Disney quietly added new offerings across the resort.
The Beak and Barrel opened on August 29, 2025, introducing an immersive dining experience that quickly built a following without heavy promotion.
EPCOT welcomed guests back to Test Track on July 22, 2025, revealing a reimagined version that aligned with the park’s evolving identity. Just weeks earlier, Geo-82 opened on June 4, 2025, giving guests a new lounge designed for slower moments.
Entertainment expanded throughout the year. Disney Villains Unfairly Ever After premiered on May 27, 2025, followed by The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure. Magic Kingdom added the Disney Starlight parade on July 20, 2025, while Animal Kingdom debuted Zootopia Better Zoogether in November 2025, replacing It’s Tough to Be a Bug.

Disney’s Bigger Picture Took Shape Worldwide
Beyond Walt Disney World, Disney celebrated Disneyland’s 70th anniversary on July 17, 2025, as part of a celebration running from May 2025 through August 9, 2026. Also celebrating the anniversary, Walt Disney: A Magical Life opened, honoring the company’s founder.
Disney also announced a new theme park planned for Abu Dhabi and unveiled a next-generation Olaf robotic character in Disneyland Paris, with Hong Kong set to receive it as well.

Why 2025 Will Matter Long-Term
Disney didn’t shout about 2025. It was built through it. Closures cleared space, openings filled gaps, and global announcements pointed to what’s coming next. Looking back, it’s clear that many of Disney World’s most significant future changes quietly began this year.
