Radiator Springs Racers is currently shut down at Disney California Adventure Park after a Disneyland Resort guest reported a collision between two ride vehicles, sparking concern among Disney Parks fans.
A Guest Describes the Collision
Reddit user u/nogluten_shark shared a photo on September 29 documenting the aftermath of a crash between two Radiator Springs Racers vehicles. According to the Disney California Adventure Park guest, they were riding in the yellow car when it suddenly came to a stop, causing the red car behind them to crash into it.

The guest also claimed that cast members didn't check on anyone's condition following the collision, instead quickly transferring riders into replacement vehicles to continue the experience without interruption.
“We were in yellow when the car came to a sudden stop and car behind hit us pretty good,” the Reddit user wrote. “When they came to get us out of the car, not one employee asked how we were (assuming for liability?). They just got us in other cars and away we went.”
Fans React With Concern — and Some Reassurance
The post drew a range of reactions from Disney Parks fans, with some expressing worry that the attraction might be overdue for maintenance. Radiator Springs Racers last underwent refurbishment from August 18 to September 26, 2025, and currently has no additional maintenance closures listed on Disneyland Resort's official operational calendar.
“That's a sign of sensors and something more serious needing replacement,” said u/Foe117. “The ride is unable to track cars at this point.”
“Welp that explains a lot about the current state of the attraction,” u/Alwayscooking345 added. “Yikes.”
Other commenters pushed back, suggesting the incident might be more routine than it appeared. “When my wife and I did a behind-the-scenes tour for this ride, they said it happens more often than people think and they call it ‘kissing,'” explained u/Netherium.
The original poster wasn't convinced that framing applied to their experience.
“Interesting. Maybe that's why they seemed so unconcerned. Same ole same ole to them,” they replied. “Did not feel like a kiss.”
Where Things Stand Now
As of publication, the Disneyland Resort app lists Radiator Springs Racers as “temporarily closed,” though it remains unclear whether this closure is directly connected to the reported collision.
